1. La Trobe Golf Park
The closest on my hit list is the La Trobe Golf Park which is just a 10-minute walk down the road from LTU. Take your student card and grab some cool discounts. It’s a must to brighten up a boring day. I’m not going to lie, I’ve gone down to play mini-golf when I’ve had a particularly bad timetable with a three-hour gap between classes.

Less than a 10-minute drive from La Trobe and only a couple streets away, lies Latitude. Latitude is my favourite place to visit for some stress relief. It’s a gigantic room filled with trampolines, foam pits and climbing walls. Keep an eye out for student discounts – you can get some awesome deals during school holiday periods with your La Trobe University student card.

3. Pentridge Prison
The Pentridge Prison Ghost Tour of the D Division is located only 15 minutes away from La Trobe. The two-hour tour promises a walk in the footsteps of some of Australia’s hardest and longest serving prisoners as well as some first-hand experience of paranormal activity.
4. Bundoora Park
For your inner kid, Bundoora Park is open from 10.00am – 4.30pm most days throughout the year. Take your student card to explore the park at discounted rates. This is an urban farm where you can meet your favourite farm animals and feed them if you arrive at the right time. It is located just a hop, skip and a jump across Plenty Road.

5. Northland Shopping Centre
If you’re in the mood for retail therapy, Northland Shopping Centre is only a 10-minute drive from LTU. With over 300 stores it’s a great way to kill a day, whether you’re interested in window shopping or watching a movie. You can scope out the website for sales throughout the year too. Shout out to my favourite place to indulge in some delicious food, Pancake Parlour. Need I say more?

6. Coburg Drive-Ins
Only 20 minutes from La Trobe lies the Coburg drive-ins. I’ve made so many great memories there as a kid, hanging out in the back of my mum’s old wagon with tonnes of snacks we’d brought from home. The best thing? It’s cheaper than a normal movie with student discounts and a special price of $45 for a carload of people. $9 per person and byo food? Yes, please!
