A new semester has started and La Trobe welcomes our many new students that are commencing courses to start the journey towards new directions!
Like many aspects of life at the moment, Orientation was a little different, with the online space being activated to welcome students in line with social distancing restrictions.
New students also met their Course Coordinators and key academic staff at Course Essentials sessions, and had opportunities to engage with students at Peer Mentor Meetups, as well as sessions on Careers, Wellbeing, Study Abroad, ICT and workshops on Academic Writing and other skills.
One of our new students, Christie Duguid, started her first semester at La Trobe on a high note as the winner of the ASSC College Orientation Survey competition, snagging a $100 Coles Myer card for her efforts!
Christie says her first weeks of studies have been “Great!!”
“(There is) quite a lot to get my head around with study being online but I think things are already feeling like they are falling into place. The support has been really wonderful and easy to access.”
Her advice for other students starting uni is “Breathe, ask questions, be proactive and get involved as there as loads of workshops and resources to help you make the most of your studies.”
While studies are now beginning, Christie has her sights on the future, with her plans “To do the best I can and make the most of my time, becoming a primary school teacher at the end of it all.”
We wish Christie and all our other new students (and continuing) all the best for this semester!
