In our series on the clubs and associations available at La Trobe, this week we meet the La Trobe Law Students’ Association (LSA). James Reginato, the LSA’s Marketing Officer, provided some valuable information about how the LSA operates.
James says “the LSA is a student run organisation which focuses on representing the needs and interests of law students. We aim to provide personal and professional development opportunities while also fostering a community for law students through social, networking and volunteering events.”
While the shift to online learning has changed the way some of these events are run, the LSA has been able to continue “providing an abundance of opportunities for students to still participate. We have shifted our events online and have seen the introduction of online networking, game nights, trivia nights and career events to name a few”, and they “are constantly seeking out ways to still engage students through online platforms”.
For any new students looking to get involved with the LSA, they have a few exciting events coming up in the last few weeks of semester 2; “We are hosting a ‘succeeding at “at home” exams’ workshop on the 1st of October, which is designed to enable students to feel more prepared for their exam preparation and execution. It will also provide students an opportunity to gain some advice and insights from their peers and assessors. We also have a Netflix party happening on the 2nd of October with more details to follow on our socials shortly!”
James describes his first interaction with the LSA as being “so helpful and inviting. I really liked the amicable and welcoming nature of the LSA, and I was also really impressed with the abundance of opportunities provided to students both from a professional and social perspective”.
Passing on some wisdom for new students, James says “make use of every opportunity you can! We are surrounded by opportunities and I would encourage you to put yourself out there and take advantage of them. It will set you up well for the future and will enrich your university experience.”
