O-Week winners are grinners

Semester 1 O-Week saw Melbourne turn on some beautiful weather for lots of fun orientation activities to welcome new and returning students. Orientation is the perfect opportunity to get ready for starting your academic year, but the ASSC College Student Transition, Achievement and Retention team also know that it’s a great time to meet people.

So we wanted to know who did you meet? And we ran a competition to find out.

On our new MyLaTrobe Facebook and Instagram accounts, we heard from lots of new students about the fun they were having and who they were meeting during O-week.

Nathan Karic was our first prize winner, scoring an iPad. He has had a great start to the first year of his Bachelor of Accounting at Bundoora campus, and told us he had met Melbourne’s top DJ, also called Nathan.

We also had 6 runner-up prize winners of $100 VISA gift cards.

Lisa Falla met the legendary Eleanor Campbell in her Bachelor of Media and Communications (Journalism) course, and Naomi Taranto, who is studying her second year in a double degree of Arts/Health Sciences, met Tony who was also lost in the Agora.

Felicity Smolenaers is beginning her first year studying Archaeology, and drives from Ballarat to Bundoora campus twice a week to do so. She told us that she met the wonderful Mature Age Students Organisation ,who ran a great Orientation event, which pointed out all the available supports on campus and creates connections with other mature age students.

Our other prize winners were Devon Halse, studying Juris Doctor at the City campus, Gabbi Suckling doing a Bachelor of Early Learning at Bendigo, and Zoe Willis, studying Bachelor of Business (Marketing and Management).

We wish all our students, new and returning, the best of luck with your studies this year! If you have a story about your experience at La Trobe, tell us about it, and if you haven’t subscribed yet, then become a subscriber to join our competition to win a $250 Coles Myer voucher.
