Mental health is not something to be taken lightly. This illness effects many people across Australia, and it is important that we can all recognise and talk about it in a safe space.
Mental health week is from 5th-12th October 2019. La Trobe is proud to be supportive of this great day and what it involves.
There are many ways that you can help remove the stigma from mental health. Something as simple as asking someone if they’re okay, asking someone how their day was or phoning a friend you haven’t heard from in a while can make a big impact on someone’s day.
Here are some ways to increase awareness around mental health:
- Encourage open conversations about mental health
- Encourage zero-tolerance towards bullying and discrimination
- Be a team player
- Take a mental health day
- Bring a can-do attitude to everything you do
- Educate staff and friends on maintaining wellbeing
Recognising warning signs and speaking up if you are feeling down is the most important step that you can take.
Let Mental Health week be the starting point of helping the people around you.
